Everything you need to know about kayaking, cycling, paddleboarding, and winter sports across Latvia

Active recreation in Latvia outdoor landscape

Not at all! Our Gauja River Kayaking Essentials program is designed for complete beginners ages 14 and up. We start with paddle techniques on calm water before moving to the river, so you'll build confidence at your own pace. Most participants feel comfortable on the water within the first session.

The full route is about 30 kilometers and takes 2–3 hours at a leisurely pace. Our program helps you build the fitness and route confidence to complete it comfortably, whether you're riding it in one go or splitting it across two days.

Late spring through early autumn (May to September) offers the warmest water and most stable weather. We run training sessions throughout this window, with July and August being peak season. If you're planning a summer trip, booking 4–6 weeks ahead gives you the best selection.

Yes—cross-country skiing in Sigulda is actually more accessible than downhill skiing for beginners. We teach proper technique from day one, and most people can ski a short trail by the end of their first session. Winter training runs November through February when snow conditions are best.

For water activities: bring a swimsuit, towel, and water shoes or sandals. For cycling: comfortable clothing and a helmet (we provide them if needed). For skiing: warm layers, gloves, and a beanie. We provide all specialized equipment—kayaks, paddleboards, bikes, and skis—so you just need to show up ready to move.

Absolutely. Our kayaking and paddleboarding courses welcome children ages 8+, and cycling programs work great for kids 10 and up. We adjust pacing and teaching to match younger learners' needs. Winter skiing is suitable for ages 5+, making Sigulda trips perfect for a family winter adventure.
